5 Interpretation of Errors
10/9/2019 Galleries visit
I went to The Photographers’ Gallery and the V&A Gallery with the whole course Group A and C to get some inspiration for the research project . At The Photographers’ Gallery , I got an inspiration of some of the photos that looks like its taken accidentally or out of focus that gave me the feeling of error , for example the artwork , The Bread-Fruit with 3 pictures of 3 girls portraits but with bright-light covering their faces . This work really surprised me because I didn’t have an idea of error in photos . I came up with a word mystery with I first saw these pictures , these are the photos for the girls , but their face is not being shown and hided by the light . I think quite a lots when I saw the pictures because the girls seems like an secret that have to be hided .
Another work which I interest in was the Equis , 1985 by Herbert RodrÃguez . The back of the big cross is the pages of different life and fashion magazine , but it is crossed with a circle in the middle that is a picture of a excruciating mum carrying her son at her back , they seems to be at a extreme situation . Its gave an and idea of the contrast between things happening in different places in the world and I comes up with if war is an error to these people and if people are suffering in pain and people are having a lovely lives ?
9/9/2019 Self-directed day
Today, I did some research on interpretation of errors , and at the end came up with 4 things : Puzzle , Jasper Johns , The Matrix and Surrealism vs Reality a.
For puzzle , I would used puzzle to describe the idea of interpretation of errors , not every time that you will get the right square to fit in, sometime its takes long to get the right one and sometime its not so you will have to stay claim until you’re done with the puzzle , like life , sometime you fall and faces challenge , at the end you gain experience and success which also means that puzzle is completed .
For Jasper Johns , an American artist that associated with abstract expressionism . The painting ‘Corpse and Mirror II ‘ the lines are not linking together as usual .
For The Matrix , the imagination world and the real world , in the firm human are controlled by the machines as energy resources ,so machines takes over the world and human are living in a world imagined .
For Surrealism vs Reality, I came up with the artist that I did for my GCSE , Salvador Dali , a surrealist artist that making real things and images into dreamlike world. One of his piece can really express the idea of error ,’ Persistence of Memory ‘ . Time is passing , sun is burning , and therefore he painted the melting clock to tell the weather is hot . Overall , to me I think the error is telling something that real in a surreal way .
12/9/2019 Research day
Today , we watched 2 films of error in the morning session . The first one is about students skipping school and going to the beach .The error here is not just the attitude of being a students but also the way that they wanted to achieve their future ,in the film they talked about their future and a girl said she wants to do Business Management for university but she is at the beach in the moment instead of inside class which helps her to reach her target . The second error which tells the education level with the man with the football kicked the girl and made her fall isn’t the manner of how people treat someone you don’t know . The girl makes a huge influence to the other to escape lesson . I can see in second film ” Gay Farmer ‘ tells an error in of discrimination on sexual orientation that the famers are not confident to get agreed by people on them and are all facing their situation with family and friends , each of them have their own issue , I think not being confident to step out for themselves to tell people about them is mainly because of discrimination . The whole films is dark and the colour is very blue which makes the film more serious and feels like an horror movie , emotions of the famers is more than the languages that appears in the film .
In the afternoon session , we randomly picked 3 books and 3 painting / photographs can recreated a piece by combining the artworks together in teasing , cutting and colouring . I did mine with teasing 2 painting copies in horizontal and sticking them together with order and cutting other one with the reflection on the lake and the real image with people . My error for the middle part of my work is the reflection and reality . The upper and lower parts of my piece is following by the order of both paintings .
13/9/2019 Final piece for the research project
Today is the deadline of the final outcome of the research on error . What I did for my piece is linking idea wrong image and puzzle together to make a an outcome . The background meaning of my work is a broken family , the puzzle are a completed image of a chrysanthemum (flower that represents family) I decided to break the puzzles of the flower into colour and black and white to link back to the topic ‘Error’ . In the middle of the piece is a Chinese word ‘家’ which means ‘family’ I teased the word to carry out the idea of broken family . There is an sentence in English ‘ Family : our flowers grow in many direction ,our roots are one ‘ I teased it into pieces like the Chinese word just to do the same thing . This is an idea of the mixture of cultural . I think I did well in teasing the quote , when we were sharing our work to our group-mates they can’t really read the quotes and so do I , it is really what I want to represent with my idea .

17/9/2019: Photo chose by myself
We were asked to find an image that we like or important to us .This is one of my favourite photo because it is a memory of the family trip and the sunset on that day was so beautiful that is memorable , every time when I look at the picture , its remind me the trip , I had a deep thinking of the image that the time when we all getting old , this image kept our youth and family love .To me the photo records our happiness and family love .
17/9/2019: Studio day 1 (Photography)
We were told to take 20 bad photos that we think it is bad around the building . To me I think bad photo is photo that taken accidentally, blurred, focused on wrong things or with a bad filter . Forever , I think not everything errors that I just mentioned are bad photos something I found these picture have a better meaning and more interesting than good photos .For some of the photos , I ask my friends to help me to do some actions .
Stage photos and Unsatged : we took some random stage photos on the street . I found it interesting when taking images on the street randomly on people because while taking the photos , I saw lots of lovely images poses and interaction which also captured the emotion of those people with the environment and situation with things around to the person or people . For example of the one with a man standing next to the tree with his shoulder touching the tree , in this image I can guess that this person is waiting someone on the street ,but with the causes of the weather condition is cloudy I felt a bit lonely with this man .
18/9/19: Tate Modern visit
Xifópagas Capilares entre Nós (Capillary Xiphopagus among Us)
The Artist Tunga explores transformation of materials and also hairs . His artwork are based on Surrealism across archaeology ,mythology , philosophy , psychology and literature. For this artwork , Xifópagas Capilares entre Nós , is one of his work that relates to mythology ,as what I know the work is connected to the myth Nordic girls which the girls have conflict with their homeland , therefore there is a twin that have their hair magical braided together in the work . I focus more on the connection of hair in the artwork as the hair linking is the signature and feature of the artist work , on this piece of work the hair links is the way to delivery the message and the meaning of the relationship with the girls that they are together on the same boat whether their thoughts and mind are the same . I found Tate Modern a really nice place to explore more on different kinds of art especially some modern artworks , the galleries have their own feature which makes everything clear of what style of art it is .
19/9/2019 : Studio day 2 (Film)
Today in the morning session ,we explore and learned the technique and skills on filming which including the angle of filming , the position where the camera set is to focus on the actor ,the style of filming with focusing on the actors emotion and actions , logline which is the little summary of the film when introducing to audience to a film . I did a try on writing the logline of my favourite film , ‘Train to Busan ‘, ” A man taking his daughter on the train to Busan in South Korea and there is a virus with human becoming zombie after bitten by the zombie , the man protect her daughter of the attack from zombies on the whole journey to Busan .” Afterward , we work in groups to produce our own film with the logline that we’ve got . We give our film title ‘The Switch ‘ .We took the short film at the ground of Ravensbourne , with having 4 characters the beggar ( act by Corder Carroll) , the millionaire (act by Veronica Cheung), the assistant of the millionaire (act by Lucia Longoria ), the passerby (act by Sophia Clark). We started to film from the Millionaire courting her cash with her assistant sitting next to her then they walking out the building while rolling the cash with a bubble and put it inside the pocket , the assistant passes the briefcase to the millionaire after they are out. The beggar saw the money , walked and bump to the millionaire and to let the briefcase drop on the floor to take the money from the pocket . We did this whole take as one for more than 20 takes to get everything right because there is always some mistake and we want the scene to be perfect . The second shot is the Beggar holding the coins inside the cup and asking the passerby to let him some money with the passerby walked pass , but the beggar think that is passerby gave him too little and caused to conflict with between them , passerby then kicked his cup and coins are all fell out , Beggar stared at the passerby after the passerby left , we finished this quicker than the first one as I think we are more familiar with shooting after the first take . Then we get back to the studio to finish the editing of the short film and the poster , we are just on time finished all the time . In the film we are not just focusing on the actor faces but especially on the beggar emotion of his level (position) in the society ,the words he said . All the actions of characters and the props are also the focus on the film .I think our team os working together all the time as a group which I am so pleased with . I found the whole activity enjoyable and interesting with the production.

Self-directed task for the Photography workshop
The short story that I’ve done is the Snow White .
The story of the Snow White is covering to a forest like feeling and so I took some images of a crowd trees and flowers with sun-shining for the Snow White going out .Then I had an image of the mirror which expresses the scene which the Queen ,step-mother of Snow white asking ” Magic Mirror on the wall , who is the fairest one of all ?” The both apple images are expressing the most well-known scene which is the poison apple .
20/9/2019: Animation
In the morning session ,we learnt about different kind of animations : Traditional ‘cel’ , Stop motion animation , 2D Animation (Digital) ,3D Animation and Motion . We watched 5 videos on these animations and I found that 3D one is very interesting that it is looking natural. We did the life drawing focusing on the movement of one person out of four for 5 rounds during the game ‘Twisted’ , I enjoyed the process so much as it teaches me and gave an an impression of animation which is the movement between the artist , like the videos that we watched today , animation doesn’t always have to contain dialog , movement can tell everything . During the game , sometime it is hard to drawing a person with the movement in quick sketch because the movement is hard to draw but still it is a good experience to get knowing about animation .
In the afternoon session , we were told to create our own animation by drawing thw changes and process of the movement or anything we wants on the papers , then to make the paper flips to show the own animation . I drew an animation of an ladybird flying onto the leaves , I drew 12 pages for the whole animation. During the making , it is quite hard to make sure that the leaves stay at the same place for all the pages and also the size of the leaves have to be alike so the animation won’t be affected . I have to beware movement of the ladybird that the places that set for the ladybird for every pages have to be more natural which means the distant cannot be too far and too high or low , the direction of the ladybird have to be the same , also the pattern and size of the ladybird . I had never tried animation before and I always think that animation is something that created by computer and something very difficult , after today I know that I can also do animation .
